Seed (part one)
Seed is my latest comic, but it's actually the first Squashed Forest story I ever started to write, and it's where my ideas for the world and its "main" character Figbert originated from back in 2019.
I finally finished working out the story this year and have planned out the full comic, but as it has turned out longer than I expected I will be releasing it in three parts. Fully illustrated in coloured pencil and ink, the first part will be debuting at Thought Bubble 2024.
The Tippertapper
The Tippertapper was a new adventure for me, literally! What started out as an experiment turned into a 60-page choose your own adventure story, set in my fictional universe The Squashed Forest. Using an 8-sided die and special coin, you play as Figbert following a strange creature through the forest, and collecting as many crystals as you can.
After initially selling out, a second print run will be available at Thought Bubble 2024.
Nuts
Nuts is the first comic that I self-published in my "Squashed Forest" collection, about a creature known as Figbert who is prompted to question what he's really made of. The full comic can be purchased on my etsy store, and more Figbert can be found on my Squashed Forest blog page, and in some of my other self-published works. it was awarded a mini grant by the Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo in 2021.
the worm
the worm is a 4 page comic i entered into the observer's graphic short story prize 2020, which won the runner-up position and was published online in the guardian.
matoco
this is a short 4-page comic i created about what a house might do if it was a ghost. It is also available as a self-printed zine made of coloured and translucent paper.
riso prints
riso printing is a process i really enjoy, because it makes you think differently about how to design artwork, and the results can look great even if mistakes are made .
caterpillar soup
this is a digital version of my "caterpillar soup" riso printed concertina zine. the printed version features a (mostly) scientific description of what happens in the chrysalis when a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly.
the mammatocumulus rug
the mammatocumulus rug is a graphic short story i created in april 2020, and these are a few of my favourite illustrations from it. the full 23 page book can be purchased in my etsy shop.
the alphabert
the alphabert is a series of ink portraits i created for inktober 2019. i have also written a very short story for each one, and self-published it as a 40-page book, available in my etsy shop.
Bits 'n' Bobs
These are some other illustrations that I'm particularly happy with. It's a very small selection compared to what I've actually created over the past decade or so, but it can be hard to find the time to collate everything when it's scattered across different sketchbooks and devices. Such is life.
